Marketing A BAD PRODUCT.

Marketing a bad product can be a whole lot of work, because you’re trying to give a product whose popularity has gone under the rug a new identity as well as relevancy, especially when it was most likely produced in a time when there were limited marketing strategies.

But as technology advances, if the marketing strategy employed for a product or service doesn’t improve or advance as well, then the market value of that particular commodity’s in deep waters.
Hence it’s something that involves a lot of patience, commitment and most importantly, availability of the right resources and funds.

There are various ways by which companies, firms and other business organizations can market a bad product, these include, the use of the media through persons known as influencers, employing sports marketing strategies, and branding of local sports teams amongst others.

We live in the digital age, where news travels faster on social media platforms, and where basically so many advertisements occur. Now, quite a number of Africans make use of smart phones, people spend more time on their phones than they will fixating their eyes on a TV screen, or straining their ears to listen to the radio.

Twitter and instagram for example are good examples of social media, and marketing of tons of products take place there, this is where influencers come in. These are personalities who are quite popular on these platforms with an impressive number of following.

Now, if you have the funds available to pay these social media bellwethers, for them to advertise whatever product or service it is you have to offer, or need to bring back to its former status of popularity and relevancy, then using them as new marketing strategies will help turn your bad product into something good and worth the purchase.

This is because people buy products they believe they can trust in, so if one of their favorite media persons are marketing a product, even if that product is unknown, there is always a 90 percent chance that they will want to purchase that product.

So the use of influencers in marketing products will almost never go wrong, especially people who know what they are doing, and have a huge effect on their followers and fans.

Employing sports marketing strategies\branding of local sports teams: before one thinks of using a sports team as a strategy in marketing a bad product, one of the important things a person must put into consideration is, the question of if that sports team is one that could go into partnership with both local and international brands, in other to serve its purpose in sports marketing
Because if you’re a team whose story isn’t known, a team who isn’t recognized, no one would want you to advertise or promote their goods and services.

Hence, in order to gain such recognition, sport teams need to undergo branding by some firms such as DigitSport, one of whose aims is to create the right image and personality for sport teams in order to give them their required standing in the society.
If they are able to work hand in hand with firms like this, they will be on the winning end because, not only will they be getting an international image, but contracts from companies who want to upgrade their products and make it more desirable in the marketing field.

Marketing Strategies -WHY IT FAILS.

Sometimes we wonder why a marketing strategy that seemed liked it would be a major success fails, could it be that we missed something? What could have been the problem? Why didn’t the product sell as we had imagined it would? All these questions unfortunately are still being asked by some marketing firms and companies.

Nothing could be more painful than investing so much into a marketing strategy or having high hopes for the result it would give, or the profit that would be gained from the success of the sales of a particular good or product, and getting the complete opposite of the results that were expected.

This particular issue of failed marketing strategies, if not handled properly and in time as well, could cause harm to the financial sector of a firm or company as well their image as a brand.
Now to answer your question on why marketing strategies fail, the success of a marketing strategy is dependent on various factors, some of which include knowing your audience, what do I mean by this? Before you market any product, you need to do a series of research to understand the audience for whom you’re marketing that product for, by knowing what will catch their attention, or make them purchase your product.

If as a company or firm, you’re able to relate with your audience by knowing their interests and needs, you’ll be able to bank on that knowledge, to enable you come up with the perfect marketing strategy for your target audience, and not just a perfect strategy, but one that will definitely work.

Another reason why marketing strategies fail is the use of outdated marketing tactics as well as limited marketing channels. Sometimes it’s not about the authenticity of the marketing strategy, rather it’s the medium by which its being marketed.

When a company or firm limits their options in terms of marketing channels, the strategy being employed is bound to fail, because the outreach will be poor.
Same thing applies to the use of outdated marketing tactics, that’s why you see a record of success by companies who use unlimited channels to market their products, as well as modernized strategies such as; digital media(social media marketing),PPC as well as SEO.

Now, if all that has been mentioned above, is taken into consideration when planning market strategies, there would be more positive outcomes from the marketing strategies of companies and firms.

Being Igbo. Money is not an Identity(part 2)

Oh look, that girl loves money. She has to be an Igbo girl. They all love money. If you don’t geddi! Nwannem don’t make me use swear words on my blog. Oh look that guy loves going into any investment he sees. Must be an Igbo boy. As much as this is said to sound like a compliment, it’s not.

Here’s what I think. You want to call someone a hard worker? Or a hustler? Call them just that. No indirect talk or beating about the bush. Just give the compliment and go. Because when you say it any other way, you leave people to interpret your words how they deem fit. You make their minds wander around the meaning of your words.

So be direct. I’m going to say this again, Money is not an Identity. It’s not the representation of a particular ethnic group. Saying it is, is a slap on our faces. It’s like saying illiteracy delineates the individuality of the Hausas. Or that dirtiness portrays what the Yorubas stand for.

Money on the Tribal chart, will forever be a priority on their scale of preference. It’s a need, not a want that can be forgotten. Everyone needs it. Doesn’t matter if you’re efik, isoko, idoma or British. It’s a commodity we can’t afford to forgo.

The Igbos are far more than a monetary representation. This misrepresentation is insulting to our struggles, to our literacy and to who we are as a people. The average Igbo man is an economist, and no. He doesn’t need a degree to be addressed as such.

He knows the value of the notes he carries. He knows about investment, generating wealth. He sees beyond the goal of getting rich. Because he knows that to survive, he will have to create an opportunity for himself to maintain all that he has achieved, and even more.

So you see him, chasing after this business and that business. Searching for a balance. He has a target in mind, one he must relentlessly work towards. So you see this young man/woman. And the first thing that comes to mind is “this Igbo people sef and money”

You should wipe your mouths, and hide your faces in shame. In the next 15/20 years, that “Igbo boy/man” will be resting, because he has been able to create generational wealth. The question is, where would you be? If anything, learn from the Igbo Man. Observe the way he does business, the way he hustles. You’ll learn a thing or two.

Ahhh!! That Igbo boy is a scammer! Yes there are Igbo boys and girls who are scammers, but so is Abdul, Yemi, Itohan, Uduak, Agaba and co. You don’t see us labelling them as Scammers or international thieves. But do we have high class robbers, from these places? Well, I’ll leave your conscience to answer this question.

Hmmmm this girl sef, she loves money too much. All these Igbo girls and Money are like 5 and 6 Tufia! It’s that Tufia that will…. I refuse to use swear words. Sorry, please what exactly is your plan? Is she supposed to hate money. Maybe she should cast and bind it away from her life.

Wait, I still don’t understand. Which girl doesn’t want to be spoiled? Hope you know there’s a difference between she loves money and she’s materialistic. Okay, you don’t. How can you not love the one thing you need to pull through? the only difference here is, it’s the female gender at play. So automatically, she’s a gold digger.

Money is not an Identity. There are more lovers of currency from other tribes and cultures. People with a dangerous obsession for it. People willing to kill for it. They’re everywhere. The Igbos just make up a small percentage of that fraction.

We all need money, more than we want it. All of us. Igbo, hausa, Yoruba, ibibio, ogoni’s, etc.

Being Igbo is beautiful. It’s something that ought to give you raised shoulders. Don’t let society’s misrepresentation of who you are, make you cower away.

Have a lovely day!
