The story behind the phrase “If you see an Mbaise Man and you see a snake first kill the Mbaise Man.

Again, this is one of my very few pictorial articles. I honestly would have loved to exercise my fingers, by typing. But I would save that strength for my next article. The pictorial representation is easier to read, and ofcourse it’s prettier, so you’ll love it more than the usual typing.

I hate that some people can’t filter their words, they just open their mouth Waaaaaa, and show the world just how desperately they lack coordination and intelligence.

I’m guessing you do this too. It’s like when you’re asked where you’re from and you say Ikwerre instead of Rivers state. If your guilty just say a little yes as you read this.

You can Imagine this boy! If I didn’t like the dress I came to purchase ehhhh. Let me not even ginger too much. Because I was calm that period. But if anyone tells me that again as a joke, they’re definitely cancelled. If you want to be a clown, by all means go join a circus. Just keep your stereotypical jokes to you, yourself, and you.

You know, I just think it’s funny that people’s curiosity only comes to play when it comes to frivolities. I wonder how many have asked themselves why such a thing is being said. How many have done their research, so they know to watch their mouths, and compose themselves better.

What exactly was his plan eh?

So you can see how the person at fault here, the one who made the wrong moves in the first place ended up creating such a negative stereotype about a cultural community.

This phrase has done harm, so much. It has created this negative image of the mbaise man in the minds of people. And that’s why, we must do something about it as the younger generation.

Parental blackmail/Toxic parenting.

Parents. Don’t you just love them? Wonderful people who brought us into this world. The second reason why we exist in mother earth. Yes, they can be very sweet and lovey to us. But that doesn’t dispute the fact that they can be pretty annoying as well.

I’ll try to keep this one short. What do I mean by parental blackmail? Simple. Blackmailing and guilt tripping a human being, the only difference here is, it’s done by our very own parents. That brings me to toxic parenting.

No parent wants the worst for their child, not unless they’re witches and wizards. I’ll like to believe majority want the best for their children. And I can’t help but appreciate it. Really, I can only imagine the pressure they put on themselves to ensure we all turn out good. It isn’t something everyone can do.

The problem however, is when they become obsessed with their good intentions, packaged in a planned life for you. That’s when their plans for your future matter more than you or what you want. Yes they’ll say it’s for your own good. But underneath all that?

They’re trying to make a name for themselves through you, trying to live their unaccomplished goals through you. Yes they will argue saying, it’s your name on the certificates anyways. But let’s not forget who will be bearing Mama Dokita or Papa Lawyer, because of you. This is called toxic parenting, which will eventually lead to parental blackmail.

I’ll give you an instance. Emeka is a very skilled public speaker, who wants to go into media. But papa Emeka says it won’t yield anything. He tries to discourage him all to no avail. So Mama Emeka who is in support of papa Emeka’s view, decides to blackmail poor emeka. She tells him about the pains she went through birthing him.

How she suffered and had to quit schooling for some time, makes him think he’s the reason she couldn’t accomplish her goals. She might even go as far as snubbing his greetings, crying and making noise. The usual “this child wants to kill me” Most of us already know these lines.

Emeka is moved, he feels guilty. Their plan is working. Reluctantly and for the sake of family, he decides to trash his plans, and sticks to theirs. Years later, Emeka is probably earning a lot. More than people in the media. But something very important is missing. True satisfaction and happiness. Work is more like a gruesome chore, he hates days that aren’t weekends, dreads work, etc.

Parental blackmail is a real thing. So is toxic parenting. I understand you want to protect your children from the evils of this world. But you have to give them the space to grow, discover themselves and to live. Stop breathing down the necks of your children. Give them their privacy for christ sake.

If they’re a certain age, you have zero business snooping around their phones. And if you’re caught, best believe you owe them an apology. But No. Some parents being who they are will tell you about how it’s their right to check what you’re up to. At least give them the benefit of the doubt. Show them you trust them.

I know it sucks to not achieve your dreams. You must also understand that just as you had dreams? Your kids have a mind of their own, their own dreams, goals and ambitions. Don’t encroach on that. Trust them enough to make that decision for themselves, please.

Stop telling your children about how you carried them for nine months, when you’re absolutely wrong. Stop using that to score points or make them feel bad. You knew very well that pregnancies lasted for 9 months, before you decided to make a baby. If you didn’t want to get pregnant? There are contraceptives!

Ohhh you suffered and slaved for them. Excuse you, was that the job of another woman? Or am I missing something here? Who else was meant to nurse them if not you? Why using your responsibility as a weapon? Toxic parenting. Using bible passages about honouring mother and father, as an excuse to manipulate your kids into doing your selfish wills.

One day they’ll be parents too, and sometimes unconsciously, they will apply the same method of parenting. Copying both the good and bad patterns. Before you know it, it becomes a cycle that’s hard to stop. At the end of the day, we might boast about how our toxic parenting made them respectable men and women in the society.

What we won’t see behind all that, is the messed up mental health. That will unfortunately make them feel miserable. To you they turned out right, question is, did they really turn out right in all aspects? Or just academically.

As much as I know you want to see them grow into useful human beings in the society, you also have to give them a chance to grow into who they want to be. Their version of themselves not yours. It will be hard, maybe because you want everything to be perfect. But you just have to give them that space to make mistakes and grow from them.

Stop blackmailing your children. Stop with the toxic parenting.

Have a lovely day!

The Secrets to being an Amazing Creative Writer.

I know people may wonder, are there any secrets to being a creative writer? Isn’t writing something that’s given as a natural gift or skill from God? So why is she telling us about secrets to being an amazing creative writer? Abi must Agender agend?

Truth is, Creative writing skill like any other skill is something that can be developed over time. Yes, you may be lucky enough to have always had a way with words. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. Or that you’re perfect, No. And if you stop practicing, you might wake up one morning and discover, you actually don’t know how to piece one or two words together again.

I’ll go straight to the point. The secrets to being an amazing Creative writer are as follows:

1)Consistency: It’s one thing to know how to do Creative writing, another to k ow how to do it pretty well, so much that it becomes a source of livelihood for you. Sometimes people get carried away with this whole idea of, it’s God given, I can never lose it. Why bother being consistent, when I’m so great at it?

That’s one mistake creatives must avoid by all means. Consistency gives room for improvement. Everyone needs improvement, no matter the field of involvement. That time you’re using to lay around, comfortable. Another creative writer is using that same time to work on their skills, learn more, get uncomfortable, work outside their box, and come up with mind blowing contents.

So, Consistency is a must, if you ever want to be an amazing Creative writer. Sometimes we may use writer’s block as an excuse for our inconsistency. But the truth is writers block can only last for as long as we want it to. So put in the work Sis, that’s the only way you’ll get thw results you want.

2) Explore other Niches: This has to do with getting out of your comfort zone. An amazing Creative writer, thinks outside the box. They get uncomfortable in order to end up comfortable. If you’re great at poetry, don’t just focus on it alone. From time to time, try out prose. Have knowledge on other parts of creative writing.

It helps to broaden your opportunities in terms of writing contests and the likes. I understand how difficult it can be, trying something you know nothing about. But as a writer you’re lucky, because if you can write poetry, then you can definitely write fiction. It just takes some courage, consistency, effort and belief in yourself.

3) Find your Rhythm: It’s okay to admire the rhythm of a particular writer. To love their content, and method. What’s not okay, is using that as the genesis and revelations of all your write ups.

As a writer, you ought to have a voice of your own. Don’t make it obvious to your readers you’re following a pattern word for word. It’s not wrong to apply a little of their style. But also add your flavour to the mix.

Let people see something different in what you bring to the table. You have a crazy mind, filled with mind blowing imaginations. Bring them to life, don’t stick to the norm. Be different. Everyone has something that makes them unique. Find that something about you and apply it to your work.

Tell your story, yours not theirs. People who know a master piece when they see one, will appreciate the originality and uniqueness of your content. Plus you will be creating a new standard. One that upcoming Creative writers would look up to, for inspiration. So please using your rhythm will not only create a name for you, but will help in your process of being an amazing Creative writer.

4)There is no Formula to it: Ah ah this girl has come again. After giving us some tips, she’s saying there’s no formula to it. So what so we now believe like this eh? Calm down dear, your blood is too hot.

Creative writing has no formula. You write freely, as you want,.Independently. You create what works for you and make good use of it. What A applied to their work might never work for you. You can break the rules if it doesn’t match your level of creativity.

For instance a sonnet is 14 lines. Well what if I want to write a poem of 18 lines? You do that! Give it a name. Might not be recognized, but to you it is. No one will charge you, so there you have it; freedom to bend the rules of Creative writing.

So that’s what I mean by there is no formula to it. The only time rules apply, are when it comes to competitions, writing contracts or jobs. But if it comes to personal work? Be your own Boss, that’s what differentiates you from the rest of the clique.

Have a lovely day!
